CRIME PREVENTION ADVISORY FOR THE YEAR END FESTIVE SEASON

The year-end festive season is approaching. This period is an opportune time for criminals to commit theft or theft related offences due to large crowds in shopping malls, commit housebreaking during the closure of commercial premises as well as commit opportunistic crimes such as outrage of modesty, voyeurism, and pickpocketing. Commercial premise owners are encouraged to increase security measures (such as patrols) to deter such crimes. Premise owners are also advised to inform their shop/restaurant owners and other tenants to take precautionary measures such as not keeping cash or valuables inside the shop and to install CCTVs where possible.

2 The Police would like to reiterate the importance for our stakeholders to remain vigilant against crime and security threats to their premises. Should premise owners and operators detect any suspicious activity in the vicinity of their premises, they are advised to contact our Police hotline at 1800-255 0000, report through the SGSecure mobile application, or dial `999’ for urgent assistance.

3 Please disseminate this advisory to all your security staff and any relevant stakeholders so that everyone can play their part in crime prevention and keeping Singapore safe from terrorism. Useful resources such as SGSecure Guides for Workplaces, retail and F&B businesses to help businesses raise their preparedness levels are available on the SGSecure@Workplaces website (www.mom.gov.sg/sgsecure). They can also download the latest crime advisories and neighbourhood crime situation via our Police@SG mobile application. They are also encouraged to download the ScamShield mobile application to protect themselves and their loved ones against scam calls and SMSes. The application is available for download on both Google Play and Apple App store.

4 Together, we can make our community a safe and secure one for all.
