Singapore Retailers Association (SRA) is proud to support the National Environment Agency (NEA)’s Say YES to Waste Less (SYTWL) campaign and we would like to encourage you to join us in this journey with NEA and lead the change for both our people and the environment.

Background information on SYTWL

In 2020, 200,000 tons of domestic waste comprised items such as carrier bags and takeaway containers/cutlery were thrown away. At our current rate of waste disposal, our only landfill, Semakau Landfill, is expected to run out of space by 2035. Sustainability is a shared responsibility and participating in the national Say YES to Waste Less movement will help retailers save on packaging costs and position your brand to consumers as a progressive company taking steps to contribute to Singapore’s sustainability.

In 2019, the National Environment Agency (NEA) launched the national “Say YES to Waste Less” movement, partnering businesses to reduce disposables through nudging consumer behaviour. As of 2020, 95 partners across 2,100 premises, including major retailers and F&Bs, have come onboard Say YES to Waste Less.

How to participate in the SYTWL campaign

Participating in SYTWL campaign is easy and can be done in any of the following ways:

• Display and promote awareness – Display materials (created by your store or use those provided by NEA) to promote the use of reusables
• Get your employees to be advocates – E.g. Cashiers can encourage customers to bring reusable bags for shopping
• Amplify the message through your digital channels -Create and share posts on IG and Facebook encourage BYO
• You may also create your own unique themed campaign to promote BYO amongst your customer community.

By being part of SYTWL, you will join the campaign’s growing network of other established brands to promote a mindset change (within your means) to reduce disposables. In addition, you will also be recognised by NEA for your support and profiled as a valued partner of this campaign. Point-of-sales materials promoting the campaign will also be provided to you complementarily.
